The City Gallery Rimavská Sobota was established as an organizational part of the Municipal Cultural Center in Rimavská Sobota in 1996. It focuses on the research of Slovak fine art of the 20th and 21st century, and on the presentation of artists of all generations: Juraj Bartusz, Maria Bartuszová, Juraj Meliš, Rudolf Sikora, Štefan Balázs, Martin Knut, Viktor Frešo, Erik Binder, Ján Adamove, Tibor Uhrín, Marián Straka, Jana Farmanová, Patrícia Koyšová, Juliana Mrvová and others. CG RS creates and manages collection fund, and performs professional management of gallery collection items. It organizes educational programs in the form of creative workshops and lectures on art.

The gallery’s activities are intended for citizens and visitors of Rimavská Sobota as well as for professional public in Slovakia. It is one of the few galleries in Slovakia founded by the municipality.
