The Slovak Galleries Council (SGC) is the only professional and coordinating body of art collecting galleries registered in Slovakia that professionally build, process, preserve and publish a permanent collection of fine arts.

SCG was established in 1990, and since 1998 it has been registered as a civil-based association of professionals. The member galleries are represented in the board by SCG directors and selected professional staff of galleries. The council helps to solve the problems of individual galleries and relationships with other organizations. It cooperates with the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, state administration and self-government bodies on the issues of creating conditions and ensuring activities of the network of galleries of the Slovak Republic.

It participates in the creation of cultural concepts and strategies, and in training of professional staff. It supports and implements major professional projects, mediates information, and promotes the visibility of galleries and their activities.
