The Novohrad Museum and Gallery in Lučenec
The Novohrad Museum and Gallery in Lučenec was originally founded in 1955 as the District Museum of National History in Halič. Between 1967 and 1985, it operated in Fiľakovo as Novohrad museum. Since 1985 it has resided in Lučenec in the monumental building of a former county courthouse in the historical center of the town. The institution, the founder of which is the Banská Bystrica self-governing region, manages more than 25 000 archaeological, ethnological, historical and gallery collection items. Among these are particularly valuable collections of folk pottery, enamel and historical glass documenting the dominant industries of Novohrad. The Gallery collects the works of artists working in Lučenec and the vicinity. It regularly organizes international artistic competition called Triennial of Aquarelle (since 1983) as well as International Ceramic Symposium (since 1989). The museum has a rich collection of contemporary ceramics, which is shown within a permanent exhibition. On January 1 in 2004 the Novohrad Museum was merged with Novohrad Gallery.
