The Orava Gallery in Dolný Kubín
The Orava Gallery in Dolný Kubín is one of the most important public gallery institution in Slovakia, hosting a collection of eight art disciplines in more than 8500 works of art. Besides permanent exhibitions in the Dolný Kubín County House (Old Art of the 15th - 19th Century, Icons, Slovak Fine Art of the 20th Century, Traditional Folk Art - Selection, Štěpán Siváň – woodcarver from the Orava region), the gallery also organizes short-term exhibitions. On the Slanica Island of Arts, in the middle of Orava Dam, there are permanent expositions of traditional folk art located - the exhibition “Slovak traditional folk sculpture and painting”, the lapidarium of “Orava stone sculptures of the 18th and 19th century”, and the history of the flooded villages and the construction of Orava dam. Access to the island is provided by the OG SLANICA ship running from the port in Slanická Osada. The Maria Medvecká Gallery in Tvrdošín hosts a seasonally installed exposition from the work of painter Maria Medvecká. The attic exhibition space called „Atelier“ is used for presentation of fine art.
