The Považie Gallery of Art in Žilina
The Považie Gallery of Art in Žilina was established in 1976. Its most important activities in the 80’s were six editions of Slovak Drawing Exhibition. After 1990, there came a breakthrough in its direction, as the gallery’s exhibition, publishing and acquisition activity began to reflect the art of new media. At present, the gallery is dedicated to art exhibitions in the field of media and media art and to projects exploring the possibilities of traditional media (painting, sculpture and drawing) in the digital media and post-media period. After 1990, PGA organized the following art exhibitions: Dream on the Museum (1991), Physical / Mental, Paradigm Woman, Between Man and Woman (1995 - 1997), Neutral Years (2011).
There have been released several publications on key contemporary artists based on the gallery’s research outcomes. PGA, as the only gallery in Slovakia, presents the art of new media within a permanent exhibition The First Museum of Intermedia, which opened in 2012. Since 2009, the Gallery has been hosting the exhibition of works by Vincent Hložník, which are made available as a selection of the extensive collection of his works acquired in 2004.
